Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawls have a long history and are of great significance. Part of its mystery is that all involved feel the blessing of it - the person who knits or crochets making a shawl, the one presenting it as a gift from St. Luke's, and the person receiving it.

Dedicated individuals work independently and, at times, gather together to knit or crochet Prayer Shawls to be presented to those who are sick, mourning, or in a transitional place in their lives. They envelop a person physically and spiritually in prayers - in celebration, in joy, and in sorrow.

When the shawls are completed, they are placed near the alter so all in attendance at worship can lay their hands upon them. At the end of the service, our rector blesses them before they are presented to individuals. In this way, they become a gift from the entire congregation.
