Who We Are

Our Staff

St. Luke’s is organized around the theme; Journey Inward, Journey Together, Journey Outward. Let me tell you what we mean by that. Journey Inward means that if we are to be all that we can be as followers of Jesus we must first nourish our souls. To that end we try very hard to make our Sunday worship services an opportunity for all of us to be filled through hearing the Word read and preached prophetically, through moving music from varied genres, and by coming to the Lord’s table for Holy Eucharist, or the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion; the same thing by different names. We also offer special opportunities throughout the year in the form of retreats, Bible Study and workshops, all intended to supplement our weekly worship.

We Journey Together, in part, by caring for one another in an intentional way during times of crisis. This caring takes many shapes and forms, such as preparing meals for a family who has lost a loved one, hospital visits, home visits, telephone calls. The Journey Together also means that I, along with some volunteers, make home and place of work visits when invited. I also regularly receive guests into my office to listen to them, advise them, or simply to visit.

Our Journey Outward is as important as the other two and we do it every day. Not only do we nourish our souls and care for one another, we care just as much for those in our community who are in need. We offer first of all a comfortable, hospitable place for the tired and hungry to come inside and sit. We give them food if they are hungry, shelter if they are homeless, and we pay utility bills, rent and for prescriptions. We generally attempt to address the many and varied needs of the poor who come our way, whatever they are. We spend thousands of dollars on this ministry every year and only wish we could do more.

We have quite a place here. We believe you can find the risen Christ here. In the Gospel according to John, Jesus notices some people following him so he asks, “What are you looking for?” They say, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” Jesus said, “Come and see.” Likewise, I say to you, come and see.
