Social Justice
As you may know, on March 2 Glenn Beck of Fox News advised his listeners and viewers to check their church’s website to see if they find the words social justice or economic justice. He advised that if those words were found you should leave your church. He claims that they are code words for communism and fascism. I claim the man is sick.
Beck, apparently thinking he is a theologian, says that Jesus had nothing to do with government, but rather only with individualy souls. Beck has no idea what he is talking about. Jesus, in the tradition of the great prophets of the Jewish people, had much to say about government and how the structures of his time related to and treated people, especially the poor. Further, his closest followers, according to the book of the Acts of the Apostles, believed that all things should be held in common and given to any as they had need. This sounds a lot like social and economic justice to me.
I could write a book about this but will stop here for fear I will rant as Beck does. I think he will do or say anything to keep his audience angry and fearful, even attack the Christian Church. He is sad indeed.
