Reaching Out through Music
Because of our beautiful sanctuary, our music-friendly acoustics, and our fine Nichols and Simpson pipe organ, St Luke’s is the favorite venue for a wide variety of musical performers, including such prestigious groups as the American Boychoir (www.americanboychoir.org), from Princeton, NJ; Clare College Choir (www.clare.cam.ac.uk/life/choir/index.html) from Cambridge, England; and the LYRA vocal ensemble from St Petersberg, Russia (www.lyra-online.org)
The Hot Springs Music Club regularly meets here and St Luke’s is one of the favorite venues for the Hot Springs Music Festival www.hotmusic.org. We are also the home of the annual Sing Along Messiah, each December, with full orchestra and soloists. Date to be announced.
On Sunday, November 23, 2009, at 3 pm, St Luke’s Parish and Archangel Choirs, along with the Concert Choir from National Park Community College and the Choir from the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts, will join together to present the John Rutter Mass of the Children. They will be accompanied by a professional ensemble of woodwind and percussion players, with St Luke’s Director of Music, Lynn Payette, on organ and the conductor will be Denise Edds, Director of Choral Activities at National Park Community College. This is presented by National Park Community College and in loving memory of Dana Camferdam, a long-time member of the St Luke’s Choir. There is no charge for admission, but a freewill offering will be available, to help defray expenses. All are welcome.
